We’re committed to cleaner energy for Grand Cayman

Why do we need change?
The growth of the Cayman Islands population and infrastructure demands more electricity. When thinking about future energy needs, it is crucial to plan for where that energy will come from.

What are the green & renewable energy options?
We have analysed different options of energy sources including solar, wind, thermal, and waste to energy and have concluded that a mix of options is best. We believe solar, battery storage and generators powered by Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) will provide the largest and swiftest gains with the least negative impact to our environment.

Where do our plans take us?
We’re committed to the goals of:
60% Reduction of CO2 by 2030
70% Renewable Energy by 2037
This will be achieved by implementing large-scale solar and rooftop solar combined with battery storage.
Affordable, reliable and sustainable energy
Technology has now progressed to where CUC can effectively move from mostly diesel generation to a significant portion of energy being produced via solar (plus storage). This will remain as effective, reliable and economically competitive as diesel-generated energy, with the added benefit of increased sustainability.
We at CUC are committed to greening our grid, to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and to bringing more renewable energy to Cayman.
Not sometime in the future. Today.

Stay tuned as we share more about our renewable energy efforts in the coming weeks
Throughout this journey, we will share with you the work we have done and the projects we are working on now. You will meet our team who are working diligently behind the scenes on our renewables projects.
The journey we are on is not one that has an end. Rather, it is a way of thinking and acting that will continuously evolve to help us play a critical role in Cayman’s renewable energy transition.
We invite you to follow along and check back often.
